Omega Blue Farms is a mixed farm dedicated to heritage food conservation. We rely on traditional knowledge to selectively breed towards recognized breed standards, successfully producing show champions that perform well on the table. We are Canada’s only APA recognized Grand Master breeders of turkeys and muscovy ducks.

Our long term serious breeding efforts include Araucana and Ameraucana chickens, muscovy ducks, and turkeys. Each genepool has been developed locally and represents a key component in the long term sustainability of our farm. The Khaki Campbell duck from a quality Oregon breeder has also earned a long term position on our farm. We couldn’t ask any more from a heritage poultry breed and feel it sets the standard for heritage breed conservation.

Windrush Farm is 10 acres of pasture and woodland on Salt Spring Island, owned by Alan and Margaret Thomson since 1986. They have been raising heritage turkeys and selling fertile eggs, day old poults, breeding stock and fresh and frozen turkey meat since 2003. The farm also has a small flock of rare Cotswold sheep, an old English breed that was once very popular in Canada for both wool and meat.

Here at Odd Bird farm, I have a pair of Bourbon Reds, one Black Spanish hen, one elderly Blue Slate Hen who is setting on eggs rite now, two hens of mixed parentage and one neurotic Ridley hen. All my hens are laying now, except for the blue slate, and one mixed who is raising 2 poults. I am hoping to raise about a dozen birds each year for the freezer.

I also have a pair of black Auracanas and two black naked neck hens who have just started laying.
